Tabahn Afrik Named Collegeswimming.com Conference Swimmer of the Week

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame men’s swimmer Tabahn Afrik was named the Collegeswimming.com conference swimmer of the week it was announced Wednesday. Afrik earned the nod after a stellar weekend on the road at Virginia.

“Tabahn has been developing as a solid collegiate swimmer throughout this season,” Irish head coach Mike Litzinger says of the award. “His performances at Virginia showed just that.”

Afrik began the two-day meet swimming with the A-team in the 200 free relay, that took first place to start the meet (1:21.29). He went on to win the 100 free (44.69) and help the A-team in the 400 medley relay seal another victory for the Irish (3:18.08) to close out Friday.

Saturday, he swam with the B team in the 200 medley relay which finished third (1:30.77). He took first in the 50 free and fourth in the 200 free (1:41.30), finishing the meet first with the 400 free relay A team (2:59.37).

The Irish lost 182.5-170.5 to the Cavaliers, but are back in action Saturday at home against Northwestern. The meet starts at noon ET, and will be live streamed on WatchND.
