Swimming And Diving Puts Wrap On Ohio State Invite, Finishes Fourth Overall

COLUMBUS, Ohio – MacKenzie LeBlanc went 1:48.03 in the 200 butterfly to notch an NCAA B-cut Sunday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. His efforts helped the Notre Dame swimming and diving team earn a fourth-place finish among the 12-team field at the Ohio State Invite.

Ohio State (1,424) won the event with Minnesota (834) and West Virginia (447) taking second and third, respectively. The Irish earned 422 points for fourth.

Notre Dame’s next dual meet will be Jan. 9 against Northwestern, the first of four home meets the Irish will take part in before the BIG EAST Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The Irish will spend several days in San Juan, Puerto Rico, after Christmas for the program’s annual winter training trip.

1,650 Freestyle: Andrew Deters checked in at 15:50.66 for 10th place … Steven Brus was three spots back in 16:03.54.

200 Backstroke: Petar Petrovic (1:49.65) was ninth, just ahead of 10th-place Michael Sullivan (1:49.28).

100 Freestyle: John Lytle was Notre Dame’s highest finisher and went 45.27 for ninth … John McGinley posted a 46.09 in the finals to tap in at 11th-place.

200 Breaststroke: Joseph Raycroft (2:04.89) was 10th while P.J. Koppel finished in 2:06.36 for 13th.

200 Butterfly: MacKenzie LeBlanc (1:48.03) earned an NCAA B-cut while finishing ninth … Bill Bass was next in line, finishing the course in 1:49.70.

400 Freestyle Relay: Lytle, Andrew Hoffman, McGinley and Kevin Overholt teamed to go 3:02.67 … that time was sixth-best among the field.
