Stiffler Names Ryan Munger Volunteer Assistant Coach

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame head baseball coach Shawn Stiffler completed his staff with the hiring of Ryan Munger from Davidson College as his volunteer coach. Munger has served as an assistant coach for the past seven seasons, and was elevated to recruiting coordinator in July of 2018.

After joining Davidson in the fall of 2013, Munger worked primarily with the catchers and assisted with hitting. This past season, he helped guide the Wildcats to a 43-13 overall mark, a 20-4 Atlantic 10 Conference record as Davidson earned the 2022 Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship, finishing a game ahead of Stiffler’s VCU team.

Over the past five seasons, Munger has helped lead Davidson to new heights, winning the most games in a season in program history in 2017, 2018 and further improving that total during the 2022 season. He led the Wildcats to their first-ever conference title in the program’s 115-year history in 2017, and was just the second four-seed to ever sweep an NCAA Regional.

Munger helped tutor Eric Jones and Jake Sidwell to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List honorees. Sidwell was a finalist for the Johnny Bench Award as well as a Rawlings Gold Glove finalist, both of which were the first of their kind for the Wildcats.
