Aztecs Double Up on Irish

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Notre Dame women’s tennis team was defeated by the San Diego State despite leading 4-2 after singles play. The Aztecs swept the three doubles points and defeated the Irish, 5-4.

The Irish entered the match ranked No. 14 in the nation and appeared to have things under control, winning the first four matches off the court.

But the Aztecs received points in the No. 1 and 2 spots in three-set matches and carried the momentum over into doubles play.

SDSU swept Notre Dame in doubles, the closest match coming at the No. 2 spot where the team of Marisa Velasco and Kelly Zalinski were defeated 8-4.

The Irish fell to 9-7, while the Aztecs improve to 10-6.
