Notre Dame Women’s Swimming Competes at Rainbow Invitational

HONOLULU, Hawaii — Notre Dame’s women’s swimming team completed thefirst day of competition at the two-day, 10-team Rainbow Invitational atthe University of Hawaii in Honolulu. Linda Gallo once again paced theIrish as she advanced to two finals which will be held Friday night. Gallo placed third in the preliminary 500 freestyle and sixth in the 200individual medley.

Notre Dame had its best result in the 200 butterfly as Alison Newell,Lauren Relay and Liz Barger took three of the eight spots in the finals. The Irish sent two swimmers into the 100 breaststroke finals as ShannonSuddarth and Brittany Kline placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Notre Dame placed two relay teams into the 200 medley relay finals also.

Barger and Suddarth also qualified for the finals in the 100 butterflyand the 200 breaststroke events. Erin Brooks finished second in thepreliminary 100 backstroke to secure her spot in the finals.

The finals will begin at 5:00 p.m. Friday night in Hawaii.
