Irish Defeat Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Senior center Katryna Gaitherscored a game-high 25 points, including 11 points in a 25-10Irish run to open the second half, as No. 14 Notre Dame overcamea six-point halftime deficit to defeat Bowling Green 85-70.

With the victory, Notre Dame improves to 4-1, marking the thirdtime in four years the Irish have opened the season with fourvictories in their first five games. Bowling Green fell to 0-1.

Notre Dame had a balanced attack as Gaither led five Irishplayers in double figures. Sophomore guard Shelia McMillen cameoff the bench to score 16 points. Senior guard Beth Morgan andjunior guard Mollie Peirick added 12 points apiece, while seniorforward Rosanne Bohman scored 11.

The two teams exchanged leads before the Falcons went on a 9-0run to take a 43-39 halftime advantage. But the Irish, who shot48 percent from the field in the first half, came out on fire inthe second half, blistering the nets for 64 percent shootingfrom the floor.

The Irish took the lead for good on a jumper in the lane byGaither with 16:37 remaining in the second half. Garrity, whohad 16 second-half points, has scored 20 or more points in allfive Irish games this season.

The game concludes a stretch that saw the Irish play five gamesplayed in four different states over a nine-day period. Three ofthe five teams the Irish played during this stretch were rankedin the top 20. Notre Dame continues a stretch of sevenconsecutive games away from home this Friday when the Irishplay Ohio in the first round of the Comfort Inn Downtown inAtlanta, Ga.

Notre Dame’s next home game is Dec. 7 against Big East foeProvidence.
