Texas Men’s Tennis Team Defeats Irish 4-3

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – No. 7 Texas won two of three doublesmatches en route to defeating No. 29 Notre Dame 4-3 Saturday afternoonin men’s tennis at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. The Longhorns improved to3-2 while the Irish fell to 6-2.

Notre Dame junior Jakub Pietrowski and sophomore Brian Pattersoneach won individual matches and combined to win their doubles match overB.J. Stearns and Mark Loughrin 9-8. Pietrowski, playing No. 1 singles,rallied from a set down to defeat Stearns 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 while Pattersonwon in straight sets over Jack Brasington 7-6 (4), 7-5.

Notre Dame also scored a team point when freshmen Ryan Sachirerecorded a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2) victory over Nick Crowell in No. 2 singles.But it wasn’t enough as the Longhorns which won the doubles point andsplit the six singles matches.

The Irish are back in action tomorrow when they host Duke at the EckTennis Pavilion. The match is set for a 12:30 p.m. start.
