BAUMER FAMILY HEAD MEN’S LACROSSE COACH, KEVIN CORRIGANKevin Corrigan is entering his 30th season on the Fighting Irish sideline in 2017-18 and is the longest active tenured coach in men’s lacrosse at the Division I level. Since his arrival on campus in 1988, Corrigan has built Notre Dame into one of the premier men’s lacrosse programs in the country. He boasts a 285-132 (.683) record during his impressive Notre Dame tenure. 

Inheriting a program that had never earned a berth in the NCAA Championship, Corrigan has made the Irish a staple in the postseason. He has led the Fighting Irish to the NCAA Championship Weekend five times, including four appearances in the last eight seasons. Notre Dame finished as the national finalist in 2010 and 2014 and the Irish were national semifinalists in 2001, 2012 and 2015. Notre Dame has finished as NCAA quarterfinalists seven times under Corrigan (1995, 2000, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2017).


ASSISTANT COACH, GERRY BYRNE

Gerry Byrne enters the 12th season of his second stint as an assistant coach for the Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team in the 2017-18 season. In 2007, Byrne returned to the Fighting Irish program, where he served as an assistant from 1989-91. Prior to his return to Notre Dame, he was the head coach at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. from 2003-06.

The Fighting Irish have advanced to Championship Weekend four times in the last seven seasons, including title-game appearances in 2010 and 2014. Byrne’s work has not gone unnoticed as he was named the 2011 Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) National Assistant Coach of the Year for NCAA Division I.


ASSISTANT COACH, MATT KARWECKMatt Karweck, a 2006 Notre Dame graduate, is entering his sixth season as an assistant coach at his alma mater in the 2017-18 season. Prior to his return to Notre Dame, Karweck compiled six years of college coaching experience. 

During his first five seasons back at Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish have compiled a 55-24 record, earned five NCAA tournament bids, including a title-game appearance in 2014, captured the 2014 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship in their first campaign in the stout league, and reclaimed the regular season ACC title in 2015 and 2016. The Irish have reached at least the NCAA quarterfinals in all five seasons that Karweck has served under head coach Kevin Corrigan.

VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT COACH, JOHN CRAWLEY

University of Notre Dame  Baumer Family Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach  Kevin Corrigan has announced the addition of John Crawley as the program’s new volunteer assistant coach.

Prior to playing professionally in the MLL this summer, Crawley was a midfielder at Johns Hopkins from 2014-17. He was a two-time USILA All-American selection with the Blue Jays and was also named a USILA Academic All-American.  He graduated from Johns Hopkins in 2017 and earned a Bachelor of Art degree in economics with a minor in business.

DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS, ROB SIMPSONUniversity of Notre Dame Baumer Family Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach  Kevin Corrigan has announced the addition of Rob Simpson as the program’s new director of operations. Simpson is a 1985 Notre Dame graduate, earning a Bachelors of Arts degree in accounting with a minor in sociology.

Simpson was a standout goalie for the men’s lacrosse program during his time at Notre Dame. The alumnus was a first team All-Midwest Lacrosse Association Great Lakes Conference selection in 1985. Simpson ranks second in the Notre Dame record books for career saves with 623 and holds the Notre Dame record for season save percentage with a mark of .695 in 1984.
