The University of Notre Dame softball team (42-15) won its third BIG EAST Championship with a pair of victories over Virginia Tech on Saturday.

Notre Dame won game one 2-1, then took game two 3-1 to earn the league title after losing the opening game of the tournament 8-3 to the Hokies on Friday.

The Irish pitching staff shined on Saturday, holding the Hokie offense to nine hits in the two games. Freshman Steffany Stenglein picked up both wins, while classmate Carrie Wisen saved both games.

Junior Andrea Loman was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Loman contributed a two-RBI single in against the Hokies in game two that proved to be the game winning hit.
