Sixty-Six Football Players Earn Monograms in 2001.

Notre Dame, Ind. – Sixty-six members of the 2001 University of Notre Dame football squad earned monograms this year.

Here is the complete list of those awarded monograms:

Twenty players earned their first monogram in 2001 including SE Bernard Akatu, CB Garron Bible, DT Kyle Budinscak, DE Jeffrey Campbell, OLB Derek Curry, S Abram Elam, CB Dwight Ellick, FS Dwayne Francis, TB Ryan Grant, NG Cedric Hilliard, QB Carlyle Holiday, CB Preston Jackson, FL Omar Jenkins, DB Mike Klockner, TE Chris Mahoney, FB Mike McNair, OG Sean Milligan, TE Gerald Morgan, FB Eric Nelson and TB Tim O’Neill. Ellick and Grant were the only freshmen to monogram in 2001.

The 18 players garnering their second monogram included: DE Darrell Campbell, SN John Crowther, OT Brennan Curtin, LB Chad DeBolt, CB Vontez Duff, FS Glenn Earl, C Jeff Faine, TE Gary Godsey, LB Mike Goolsby, OG JW Jordan, QB Matt LoVecchio, FB Jason Murray, OLB Carlos Pierre-Antoine, SS Matt Sarb, PK Nick Setta, S Justin Smith, H Adam Tibble and LB Courtney Watson.

Nineteen players won their third monogram: CB Jason Beckstrom, OT/OG Jordan Black, FS Donald Dykes, LB Tyreo Harrison, P Joey Hildbold, TB Terrance Howard, SE Javin Hunter, CB Clifford Jefferson, TB Julius Jones, FB Tom Lopienski, OG Sean Mahan, DE Ryan Roberts, OT Casey Robin, SS Gerome Sapp, C Ryan Scarola, OT Kurt Vollers, CB Shane Walton, NG Andy Wisne and FB Chris Yura.

The seven players earning their fourth monogram were FL Arnaz Battle, OLB Rocky Boiman, TB Tony Fisher, FL David Givens, SS Ron Israel, TE John Owens and DE Anthony Weaver.

Fifth-year defensive end and team captain DE Grant Irons won his fifth monogram, becoming only the fifth player in Irish history to earn at least five awards. Irons joins Jack Mullen (1894-99), Pete Chryplewicz (1992-96), Justin Hall (1988-92) and Randy Harrison (1974-78) in this elite group.
