Shane Walton Earns BIG EAST Honors

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Freshman forward Shane Walton (San Diego, Calif.) became the first Notre Dame men’s soccer player to cop one of the BIG EAST’s weekly honors as he was named the league’s rookie of the week. He helped the Irish to a 2-0 week as he scored three goals and dished off two assists in his first two collegiate games.

Walton scored two goals and had two assists in Notre Dame’s 6-1 win over Valparaiso in the season opener. The six points were the most by an Irish freshman in a collegiate debut. He also tallied the game-tying goal in a 3-1 victory at Syracuse in the squad’s BIG EAST opener.

Walton’s three goals and two assists (eight points) currently lead the team.

Notre Dame is in action twice this week playing host to Northwestern on Tuesday, September 8 and to Pittsburgh on Sunday, September 13.
