Series Preview: #5 Florida State

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The 13th-ranked Notre Dame baseball team (13-5, 2-4 ACC) is off on the road and a top-15 matchup awaits in Tallahassee. The Irish and fifth-ranked Seminoles (16-8, 6-3 ACC) are set to face off for a three-game series starting Friday night from Dick Howser Stadium. The series-opener is set for a 7 p.m. ET first pitch and will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra. Head coach Link Jarrett is returning to his alma mater this weekend as he was a four-year starter for the Seminoles from 1991-94.

Irish and Seminoles Renew Acquaintances 

  • The Irish are off for their third ACC road series as they head south to take on #5 Florida State.
  • Head coach Link Jarrett will be heading back to his alma mater this weekend as he was a four-year starter for the Seminoles and Mike Martin Sr. from 1991-94.
  • The Seminoles went to the College World Series in three of his four years in Tallahassee and Jarrett is still in the NCAA record book for the most career assists. He tallied 802 assists over 276 games with Florida State and that mark still ranks No. 1 in all of college baseball.
  • Jarrett ranks first in the Seminole record book for consecutive games played for his career (235) and is second all-time in games played (276).
  • Jarrett and Seminole head coach Mike Martin Jr. were teammates during the 1993 and 1994 seasons. Martin Jr. was the starting catcher and Jarrett the starting second baseman in Florida State’s College World Series run in 1994.
  • The Seminoles are ranked as high as No. 5 in the weekly polls and are 16-8 and 6-3 in ACC play heading into the top-15 matchup. 
  • Florida State went 2-2 this past week as they won the weekend series over Duke at home and fell in a midweek matchup against #14 Florida in Jacksonville.
  • This will be the second ranked opponent the Seminoles have faced this year after facing the 14th-ranked Gators in the midweek matchup.
  • The Seminoles lead the all-time series between the two schools 21-10 and they are 12-4 against the Irish in games in Tallahassee.
  • Last season, Florida State won the series against the Irish after taking two-of-three games at Frank Eck Stadium in the final home series of the regular season.

Irish Run Past Northern Illinois

  • The Irish were hot on the base paths and at the plate in the 11-2 win over Northern Illinois.
  • They scored double-figure runs for the eighth time this season and had a season-best seven steals.
  • The seven steals were the most in a game since 2020, when the Irish tallied seven in a win over Presbyterian.
  • Zack Prajzner led the way at the plate with a team-high three hits and three runs. Ryan Cole set a career-high with three steals for the game and Jared Miller hit his first home run of the season.
  • The Irish broke the game open after scoring five runs in the sixth inning. It was the 10th time this season the Irish have scored five or more runs in a single inning.
  • On the mound, five different pitchers saw action against the Huskies.
  • Freshman Roman Kimball earned the win after 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed just one hit while setting a career high with four strikeouts.
  • Fellow freshman Jack Findlay tossed 2.1 innings of work without allowing a runner to reach base. He tied a career high with three strikeouts.
  • The staff limited Northern Illinois to two runs, the ninth time this season they have allowed two runs or fewer.

  • Since the start of the 2020 season, the Irish have been one of the most consistent teams over the past three seasons.
