July 27, 2000

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Notre Dame men’s tennis All-American and 2000 national senior player-of-the-year Ryan Sachire will be featured in Sunday’s third installment of “Topspin TV” on CBS. The show will air at 1:30 EST/2:30 EDT on Sun., July 30. “Topspin” followed Sachire and the Irish April 13, on campus and April 14, for their dual match at Michigan.

Sachire graduated from Notre Dame in May after being named the first Irish player to win the Ted A. Farnsworth/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Senior Player of the Year and the John Van Nostrand Memorial Award winner, as he swept both national senior awards. He reached the semifinals of the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court Championships in the fall, the first leg of the collegiate grand slam, and qualified for his fourth NCAA singles championship in May.

Sachire earned All-America honors for the third consecutive year and wrapped up his Irish career as the only player under 13-year head coach Bob Bayliss to win at least 30 singles matches all four years with a final record of 138-44. He currently is playing on the United States Tennis Association Prudential Securities Circuit as one of six members of the USA Tennis Collegiate Team.

The USTA, which sponsors “Topspin,” owns and stages the US Open and selects the teams that compete in Davis Cup, Fed Cup, and the Olympic Games. The USTA is the national governing body for the sport of tennis in America and is a nonprofit organization with more than 600,000 members. It invests all its resources to promote and develop the growth of tennis, from the grass roots to the professional levels.
