Ryan Bischel Named Big Ten First Star of the Week

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Sophomore goaltender Ryan Bischel has been named the Big Ten’s First Star of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning (Dec. 1).

Bischel stopped 55 of 58 shots for a .948 save percentage to go along with a 1.50 goals against average in Notre Dame’s road sweep of then third-ranked Michigan last weekend.

The Medina, Minnesota, native made 32 saves, including 11 in the third period, in Friday’s 3-2 victory over the Wolverines before stopping 23 shots the following night in a 2-1 triumph. The pair of wins at Yost were the first two road victories of Bischel’s Irish career.

It marks Bischel’s first career weekly Big Ten honor, while the last Irish player to earn First Star of the Week honors was former goaltender Cale Morris (Jan. 7, 2020).
