Battle-tested, fifth-year catcher who was poised to be veteran leader of 2007 team before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery on Feb. 7 (less than two weeks before the season opener) … retained a season of eligibility and thus has returned to active status for the 2008 season (as a graduate student) … will serve as 2008 team tricaptain, alongside a pair of seniors (leftfielder Ross Brezovsky and catcher Chris Soriano) … the most recent Irish players who have returned for a fifth year as graduate students are infielder J.J.
