Rob Kurz Named Captain For 2007-08 Men's Basketball Season

Nov. 2, 2007

Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame forward Rob Kurz (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) has been named captain for the 2007-08 basketball season. Kurz was selected a captain by members of the Irish team.

Kurz becomes the 18th player to serve as a two-time captain. As a junior last season, he was named a captain along with teammates Colin Falls and Russell Carter.

Kurz is coming off his best season in an Irish uniform. The lone returning senior on this year’s Notre Dame team, he averaged a career best of 12.6 points and a team-leading 8.0 rebounds (also a personal best). Kurz made 30 starts in the 31 games he played and missed just one contest due to an ankle injury.

He led the team with nine double-doubles, grabbed 10-plus rebounds in 10 outings and scoring in double figures in 21 games. He led Notre Dame in scoring on four occasions and in rebounding 17 times.

A three-time member of the BIG EAST Weekly Honor during his career, he heads into his final collegiate season with 602 points (8.0 ppg.) and 416 rebounds (rpg.).

“It’s very fitting that Rob was selected by our team to be our captain this season,” Irish head coach Mike Brey says. “He’s been the voice in our locker room since we ended our season last March and he has the respect of our entire coaching staff, and most importantly, his teammates.

“No one has worked harder during his career than Rob Kurz to make himself into a better player. His work ethic is something that is admired by our veterans as well as our younger players. I look forward to Rob having his best season ever in an Irish uniform.”
