Rick Cornett Named Men's Basketball Tri-Captain

Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame head men’s basketball coach Mike Brey announced today that senior forward Rick Cornett (Country Club Hills, Ill.) will take on the role of captain effective immediately. Cornett joins fellow seniors Chris Quinn and Torin Francis as tri-captains for the 2005-06 Irish team.

Cornett has played in all 13 games for the Irish this season, starting once, and is averaging a career-best 5.3 points, along with 3.2 rebounds, in 10.7 minutes per outing. In Notre Dame’s win over then-No. 22 Alabama on Dec. 7, he scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds in 15 minutes. He enjoyed his finest all-around game of the season in the win over Fordham, recording nine points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks in a season-high 18 minutes.

For his career, Cornett has played 77 games, including two starts, and averaged 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds. He owns five career double-figure scoring games, including one double-double when he scored 14 points and ripped down 14 rebounds against Providence in 2004-05.

A design and computer applications major, Cornett was named to the BIG EAST Academic All-Star team in 2003-04 and 2004-05.
