Nov. 17, 2014

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame softball team is accepting player registration for the 2015 Irish Softball Clinic, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 on the Notre Dame campus. Irish head coach Deanna Gumpf, associate coaches Kris Ganeff and Lizzy Lemire, volunteer assistant coach Jamie Spitale and selected Notre Dame team members will provide hands-on instruction during four separate clinic sessions.

“Hit Like the Irish” will open the clinic from 9 to 10:30 a.m. (ET) at the indoor batting cages of Notre Dame baseball’s Frank Eck Stadium. Each session participant will be matched with an Irish hitter, go through all drills together and have their swing analyzed by their Notre Dame mentor. The unique opportunity will couple drills and training with mentorship and instruction. Each Notre Dame player will be paired with two mentees for the duration of the clinic.

The clinic session is $75.00 per player, and is strictly limited to 32 hitters.

“Pitching to Success: Power, Spin, Location” is one of two instruction periods scheduled to take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the Loftus Sports Center. The pitchers-only session includes a variety of drills designed to strengthen power, maximize spin and hone in one’s location. A mixture of lecture, drills and training will comprise the instructional agenda.

The session is $75.00 per player, and this portion of the clinic is strictly limited to 40 pitchers. Each pitcher will need a parent to catch for certain drills during the session.

Also in the 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. window in the Loftus Sports Center will be “The Five Fundamentals That Lead to Greatness,” featuring a mix of offensive and defensive instruction. Players will progress through a series of five-minute fundamental drills that cover all aspects of the game of softball. Each Notre Dame player has selected her favorite offensive, defensive and baserunning drills to share with mentees, with the focus on becoming an elite level softball player.

The clinic session is $75.00 per player, and is strictly limited to 40 players.

The day will conclude with the all skills camp “Becoming Irish,” a comprehensive three-hour clinic from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Loftus Sports Center that will explore all aspects of being a Notre Dame softball player on the field. Clinic participants will take part in position specific fundamentals and drills that will enhance throwing, defense, offense and baserunning skills.

The clinic session is $150.00 per player, and is recommended for all defensive players. There will be no specialized work for pitchers during the all skills camp. Strictly limited to 60 players.
