Nov. 13, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame sophomore standout Emma Reaney is at it again as she was named BIG EAST Women Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week for the fourth time in her career, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Reaney, who was a seven-time all-BIG EAST honoree and a three-time honorable mention All-American as a freshman, has jumped out to a quick start during her second campaign in the Irish blue and gold as she has won nine of 11 individual events and three of five relay races through four meets this year. She has won six different individual events this year.

Last weekend against Pitt and Louisville, the Lawrence, Kan., native won four individual events and two relays. The individual wins were in the 200 free (1:50.55), 100 breast (1:00.95), 200 breast (2:13.57) and 200 IM (1:59.70) and she recorded NCAA B-cuts in the final three. Reaney also swam a leg in the 200 medley relay, an event the Irish won against both the Panthers and the Cardinals.

Heading into this weekend, Reaney sits fifth in the country in the 200 IM (1:59.70), seventh in the 100 breast (1:00.95) and 10th in the 200 breast (2:13.04).

Her honors from the BIG EAST come just one week after teammate Kim Holden received the same honor.

Reaney returns to her home state with the rest of her Irish teammates this weekend when they compete in Topeka, Kan., at the Kansas Women’s Classic.
