Prosper tapped for Canada's Senior Women's National Team

TORONTO — For the second time in her brief basketball career, Cassandre Prosper will represent her home country on the international stage. On Wednesday, Canada Basketball announced that Prosper is one of 12 players to make the squad, which will compete at the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup from July 1-9 at Domo de la Feria in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico.

Prosper is one of several Notre Dame players with international experience. In 2021, the 6-2 guard was a member of Team Canada at the U16 FIBA Americas Tournament that placed second. During that run, Prosper averaged 17.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. She was named to the tournament’s All-Star Five.

While the team has yet to be announced, Prosper is also a favorite to land on Canada’s U19 World Cup Team, which will compete in Madrid in late July. Incoming Irish freshman Hannah Hidalgo will also be there as a representative from the United States.

As an early enrollee at Notre Dame this season, Prosper shined from the moment she stepped onto the court for Karen and Kevin Keyes Family Head Coach Niele Ivey. The Montreal native averaged 5.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 19.3 minutes per game. She led the team in rebounding in three games, including a 9-rebound performance against Boston College in her second collegiate contest. Prosper’s 19 blocks on the season was tied for second in the ACC amongst true freshmen despite the fact that she did not make her collegiate debut until December 29.
