NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Fifth-year senior diver Meghan Perry-Eaton (Brandon, Fla./Bloomingdale H.S.) won the one-meter springboard competition to lead the University of Notre Dame women’s divers Thursday on the opening day of the Notre Dame Invitational. It was the third year in a row that Perry-Eaton, the school recordholder in the event and last year’s third-place finisher at the NCAA Championships, took first in one-meter action in the meet.

Notre Dame’s three divers scored 95 points on Thursday, putting the Irish in ninth place in the meet despite the fact that they have no swimmers entered. Perry-Eaton, who set the school, meet, and pool records a year ago, finished first with a score of 297.35 that was 63.65 points ahead of second-place Crystal Szymanski of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The All-American has been beaten only one time this season. Freshman Tara Hyer (Tampa, Fla./Academy of the Holy Names) finished fourth with a score of 218.80, while fellow rookie Laura Rings (Gahanna, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) ended up fifth with 216.55 points.

The Irish swimmers are in Athens, Ga., and they will begin action in the Georgia Invitational on Friday. Fans can follow that meet via live results and live streaming video available on the University of Georgia’s athletics website, www.georgiadogs.com.
