NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the second consecutive year an Olympic gold medalist will appear at Rolfs Aquatic Center for the Fighting Irish Swim Clinic as Tyler Clary will headline the third annual event Sept. 7.

Clary, who won gold in the 200m backstroke in London, joins Team USA teammate Tyler McGill in becoming the second international swimming standout to take part in the fundraiser.

The University of Michigan alum recently won bronze in the 200m back at the 2013 FINA World Championships to up his medal total at FINA World Championship meets to seven (3 silver, four bronze).

“I’m honored to be a part of such a prestigious event,” said Clary. “A goal of mine since I started swimming professionally has been to inspire the youth while giving back to the sport that has allowed me to be where I am today. I’m grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with The University of Notre Dame and Coaches vs. Cancer.”

The swim clinic, which is held in conjunction with Coaches vs. Cancer, will donate all proceeds made from the clinic to the wellness center at South Bend’s RiverBend Cancer Services.

Notre Dame women’s head coach Brian Barnes is the brainchild behind the event, with the first clinic occurring in 2011. The original clinic raised over $5,000 before the total was quadrupled to over $20,000 in 2012.

“We’re once again really excited to host this clinic,” said Barnes. “It’s amazing to watch the swimming community come together once again for such a important cause. Having Tyler Clary commit to helping out is awesome for this benefit and we are honored to host him.”

The clinic is offered to all swimmers age 8-18 and will run from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Interested youth are asked to register here. Check-in starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m. Participants are asked to contribute $75 towards the clinic, with higher contributions for RiverBend greatly appreciated. Every dollar of the donation will go to RiverBend.

Checks made out to RiverBend Cancer Services can be sent to the following address:
