The University of Notre Dame men’s basketball team will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming 2015 New York Life Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament slated to take place March 10-14 at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Fighting Irish finished out the regular season with a 26-5 overall record and 14-4 mark in conference play, good for third in the final ACC standings.
By virtue of its No. 3 seed, Notre Dame earns a double-bye into the quarterfinals and will one of three teams — No. 6 seed Miami, No. 11 Wake Forest or No. 14 seed Virginia Tech — on Thursday, March 12 at approximately 9 p.m. (ET) on ESPN and the ACC Network. The Irish finished 3-0 against these three teams during the season. Notre Dame defeated the Hurricanes (75-70) at home on Jan. 17, won at Virginia Tech (85-60) on Jan. 22 and beat Wake Forest at Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center (88-75) on Feb. 17.
Virginia, Duke and Louisville are the other three teams that will receive double-byes in the championship. The Cavaliers (28-2, 16-2) won their second consecutive ACC regular-season crown and will be the tournament’s No. 1 seed. Duke (28-3, 15-3) and Louisville (24-7, 12-6) will be the tournament’s No. 2 and No. 4 seeds, respectively, in the championship.
After finishing 6-12 in league play a year ago in its inaugural season, Notre Dame’s 14-4 conference ledger this year marks the second-best jump (+8.0) in the history of the ACC. The 14 conference victories also match the most the Irish. As a member of the BIG EAST Conference from 1995-2013, Notre Dame won 14 games (posting a 14-4 record) on two other occasions (2007-08 and 2010-11).
