2015-16 University of Notre Dame Women’s Basketball
Notre Dame vs. Georgia Tech
December 30, 2015
Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center – Notre Dame, Indiana

Notre Dame Head Coach Muffet McGraw

On thoughts of playââ’¬¦

“I was really disappointed with our post defense, I thought that was probably the must frustrating thing. We just could not defend them down low. We got stuck with some guards down there, a lot of mismatches. They took advantage of the mismatches really well.”

On thoughts of each quarterââ’¬¦

“I thought Arike [Ogunbowale] gave us a big lift off of the bench when she came in the first half. I thought Madi[son Cable] and Michaela [Mabrey] made some big shots in the second half. I think that’s the kind of team we are, different people are going to pick it up at different times.”

On thoughts of next match upââ’¬¦

“Everyone is important and now that we are in conference, every game just has to have a business-like approach, and that is what this team has to learn. I think it is important for us to get ready for Pitt. Every game is going to be a battle.

Michaela Mabrey – G – Senior

On two three’s to start the second halfââ’¬¦

“I thought myself, Madi[son Cable], and Arike [Ogunbowale], a few people were really getting it going offensively for us. I think it got us hyped more for us to start scoring, and I feel that’s good for us because when we start scoring it leads to better defense and more excitement.”

Briana Turner – F – Sophomore

On how she is feeling with her shoulderââ’¬¦

“I felt great tonight and I didn’t have many problems afterwards as far as soreness. I haven’t had any problems lately.”

On finding and getting back her rhythmââ’¬¦

“I feel like the last game I missed a lot of shots that I usually make, so tonight I just really focused hard on just putting the ball into the basket.”

Georgia Tech Head Coach MaChelle Joseph

Opening Statementââ’¬¦

” [I have] Lots of respect for Notre Dame and their game. They have stepped up and made a lot of plays this year and are very well balanced; they are an incredibly tough team. [I’m] Proud of my team and how we fought back, we could have stopped playing but that’s not who we are. Aaliyah Whiteside didn’t have one of her best games, but she still helped us out in a big way.”

On the struggle between the beginning and end of gameââ’¬¦

“I played a lot of people and should have stayed with some of our regulars, I really think being on the road so early, that everyone needs to get that experience ââ’¬” especially on the road. It’s a long season and everyone needs to be ready down the stretch.”

On the difficulty in defending Notre Dameââ’¬¦

“They’re very hard to cover up, they have three elite-level three-point shooters, three of the best in the league, and that’s very tough to defend. We are a team that likes to play multiple defenses and we were not able to do that tonight. We couldn’t defend that three point shooting. We need to do a better job of finding and locating shooters. Notre Dame is tough to defend because of their ability to make an extra pass, and [they] can get a wide open three pointer.”
