Notre Dame PaintFest Community Service Event - Involving Irish Student-Athletes - Set For Nov. 19-20

The Notre Dame PaintFest – a community-service event involving various Notre Dame student-athletes – is set for Sunday, Nov. 19, on the University of Notre Dame campus. Paintings on canvas and ceiling tiles will be donated to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, Ind. The PaintFest will take place in the Joyce Center Fieldhouse (north dome) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday the 19th.

In addition the event on Sunday (which is not open to the public), the general public is invited to help complete the paintings on Monday, Nov. 20, at the Eck Visitors Center (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Various Notre Dame student-athletes also will stop by during Monday to help with the completion of these special works of art.

The PaintFest is co-sponsored by Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, the Notre Dame Alumni Association and the Notre Dame Athletics Department.

The color-coded, pre-designed artwork is originated by the Foundation for Hospital Art, a global non-profit organization based in Atlanta. The foundation’s mission is to give comfort and hope to patients, families and medical staff in hospitals around the world. The resulting artwork includes a variety of wall murals, multi-panel canvases and ceiling tiles that help to brighten the hospital setting.

Special volunteers that will join PaintFest include:

• Bambino Gesu Hospital in Vatican City – Children and volunteers in the Bambino Hospital will paint at the same time the Notre Dame PaintFest is happening in South Bend.

• West Point Graduates – class of 1991 graduates of the U.S. Military Academy will extend their stay in South Bend following the Notre Dame-Army football game to participate in the PaintFest. West Point cadets paint annually at the academy for hospitals around the world.

The Foundation of Hospital Art has a vision to create art with patients, staff and volunteers in order to make healthcare facilities beautiful places for healing. The foundation has reached over 1,000 hospitals in 166 countries, with the help of more than 200,000 volunteers. Some 30,000 paintings have been donoated to care facilities around the world.
