Notre Dame Hockey Announces 2006-07 Schedule

Aug. 1, 2006

Notre Dame, Ind. – University of Notre Dame hockey coach Jeff Jackson today announced the 2006-07 Notre Dame hockey schedule. The 37-game schedule includes 36 regular season games along with an exhibition game versus the University of Windsor to open the season on Friday, Oct. 6.

The Irish will host 17 home games, including a Dec. 30 game at Fort Wayne’s Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, Dec. 30 versus Northern Michigan. The home schedule features weekend series with Bowling Green, Alaska, Northern Michigan, Miami, Nebraska-Omaha and Ferris State plus single games versus Minnesota State, Michigan State, Michigan and Robert Morris.

Notre Dame’s CCHA-rivalry pairing in 2006-07 includes Bowling Green, Nebraska-Omaha and Alaska. The Irish will face each of those school’s four times with two games at home and two away. Only Ohio State, Lake Superior and Western Michigan will not play at the Joyce Center this season.

Besides the 28-game CCHA schedule, Notre Dame will play games versus teams from the WCHA, Hockey East, College Hockey America and Atlantic Hockey. The Irish open the campaign with a home-and-home series against Minnesota State. The Mavericks will visit the Joyce Center on Thursday, Oct. 12 and Notre Dame returns the game on Saturday, Oct. 14 when they visit Mankato, Minn.

Week two of the season features a trip to New England where the Irish will renew their series with Boston College on Friday, Oct. 20 for a single game. The following night, Notre Dame will venture to Providence, R.I., to face the Providence College Friars for just the second time in the two program’s histories.

The final week of October takes the Irish to Tampa, Fla., where they will serve as the host team for the first Lightning College Hockey Classic that will be played at the St. Pete Times Forum, the home of the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning. Notre Dame faces Army on Friday, Oct. 27 in an 8:05 p.m. game. Alabama-Huntsville and Air Force play in a 5:05 game. The championship and third-place game will be played the following night.

Robert Morris University closes out the non-conference schedule with a home-and-home series. On Friday, Jan. 5, the Irish will face the Colonials at Pittsburgh’s Mellon Arena, home of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins. The two teams will then play at the Joyce Center on Sunday, Jan. 7.

For the second time in three seasons, Notre Dame will play one of its home games at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Ft. Wayne. On Saturday, Dec. 30, the Irish will host a CCHA contest versus the Northern Michigan Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. The first time they played in Ft. Wayne – Feb. 18, 2005 vs. Michigan – the game drew 7,948, the second largest crowd for a Notre Dame “home game.”

Game times for all Notre Dame home games are 7:35 p.m. for weekday games (Thursday and Friday) and 7:05 p.m. on Saturday nights. The Dec. 30 game has a 1:05 p.m. start while the Sunday games with Northern Michigan and Robert Morris have 4:05 p.m. starts.
