CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The sixth-ranked University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team met a tough obstacle on the road of its incredible season earlier today. The Irish traveled to play Virginia for the second time this season but ultimately lost to the Cavaliers, 6-1.

“Congrats to Virginia,” said head coach Ryan Sachire. “They played a great match, particularly at the top of their lineup. We’ve got some work to do to get to the level where we are playing our absolute best tennis, and we are really looking forward to these next 10 days to take those necessary steps.”

The Irish lost the doubles point on courts one and three, with senior Ryan Bandy and sophomore Eric Schnurrenberger falling to Alex Domijan and Harrison Richmond, 8-5, and senior Greg Andrews and Alex Lawson dropping their match to Luca Corinteli and Mac Styslinger, 8-5.

On the singles side, Bandy was the lone Irish player to win his match, taking down Justin Shane in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Freshmen Eddy Covalschi and Josh Hagar both took their matches to third sets but ultimately lost to their Cavalier opponents.

Notre Dame will have a bit of a respite before traveling to California in 10 days to take on USC Mar. 14.
