Notre Dame Falls To Miami Of Ohio, 71-55

OXFORD, Ohio (AP) – Miami of Ohio’s Jason Grunkemeyer scored 18 points and sparked a second-half surge as the RedHawks defeated Notre Dame 71-55 Saturday.

The Irish (4-5) were outscored 47-27 in the second half, including 10-2 in a 2:42 stretch as Miami (3-3) increased its lead from 40-39 to 50-41 with 9:13 remaining.

Grunkemeyer started the 10-2 run with a 3-pointer, assisted on a layup by Mike Ensminger and added a second 3-pointer.

Martin Ingelspy ended Miami’s run with a layup. But the Irish missed three of their next 11 shots and had four turnovers in the next seven minutes as the RedHawks took a 66-47 lead with 1:30 to go.

Grunkemeyer hit 6-of-11 field goals, including 5-of-9 attempts from 3-point range, and added five assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Anthony Taylor added 18 points and James Stewart 13 for Miami. Rob Mestas had nine assists and Refiloe Lethunya added a career-high 12 rebounds.

Troy Murphy led Notre Dame with 18 points and 10 rebounds. David Graves scored 17 for the Irish.
