SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Troy Murphy scored 17 points and Ivan Kartelo added 11 as Notre Dame broke away in the second half to defeat St. Peter’s 85-67 Friday.

Up 39-34 at the half, Notre Dame (8-5) outscored the Peacocks 22-4 in the first 10 minutes of the second half to take a commanding lead.

Ricky Belinger led the Saints (3-8) with 17 points while Keith Sellers added 14 and Kamaal McQueen, 11. David Graves and Martin Ingelsby scored 10 apiece for Notre Dame.

Both teams started out hot, with the Irish scoring on their first five shots and the Peacocks on their first four. A 3-pointer by Sellers knotted the score at 12 with 13:58 to play. The Irish pulled out to a nine-point edge before Sellers closed the half with a 3-pointer which brought the Peacocks within five, 39-34.

Murphy scored 13 first half points for Notre Dame while Belinger led the Peacocks with 11.

Notre Dame’s second half rally got them some breathing room at 57-38. Graves notched eight points during the run and Irish coach Matt Doherty removed the starters with 10 minutes remaining.
