BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – The Notre Dame baseball team finally knows its next opponent, as the second-seeded Irish will resume play in the BIG EAST Tournament with a rematch vs. No. 5 seed Boston College-in an elimination game scheduled for late Friday night at Somerset Ballpark.

The tournament resumed play on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. (eastern), with the continuation of Game 6 (between #3 seed Seton Hall and BC). SHU held a 3-2 lead after three innings, when the game was halted late Thursday night, and went on to post a 12-4 win on Friday.

The rest of Friday’s updated tournament schedule is as follows, with possible future delays due to the weather:

Game 7 (5:00 p.m., winner’s bracket game): SHU (2-0) vs. #1 seed Rutgers (2-0), winner advances to championship round (this game will start later than 5:00, as the BC-SHU game did not end until 5:30).

Game 8 (8:30 p.m., elimination game, likely will start later than 8:30): BC (1-1) vs. Notre Dame (1-1)

Game 9 (time TBA, likely Saturday at noon): Loser of Game 7 vs. Winner of Game 8

The winner of Game 9 then must defeat the winner of Game 7 twice to win the title. BIG EAST rules prohibit any one team playing three times on one day (thus the tournament possibly could make use of Sunday as a catch-up day).

Stay tuned to the Notre Dame and BIG EAST websites for updates throughout the tournament.
