NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Monica Cundiff, a member of the University of Notre Dame athletics department staff since 1997, has been promoted to assistant athletics director for event management.

In addition, Kathryn Coneys, coordinator of the Notre Dame summer sports camps the last two years, has been named event management program coordinator for the Irish athletics department.

Cundiff was promoted to her new assignment in January 2012, and assumed full-time April 1, 2012, following assistant athletic director Tony Yelovich’s retirement. She also continues a role she has held for the past eight years, managing events in the Joyce Center.

In her expanded role, Cundiff now oversees all facets of game day management for Notre Dame Olympic sports, including seasonal games, tournaments, conference play and NCAA bids.

In addition, Cundiff coordinates NBC Sports-related events during home football weekends. Cundiff also serves as the sport administrator for the Irish softball team.

Prior to her current role, Cundiff directed the marketing and promotional efforts for many of the Notre Dame varsity sports teams since 1998. In addition, Cundiff served two years as the advisor for the Leprechaun Legion, a club comprised of students supporting the Notre Dame men’s basketball team.

In 1997, Cundiff served as a sports promotions assistant at Notre Dame, with a concentration with volleyball, women’s basketball, baseball and softball.

Prior to coming to Notre Dame, Cundiff was the director of marketing for Sagamore Publishing of Champaign, Ill., from 1995-97 and she was a marketing assistant for the Champaign Park District in 1994 and 1995. She was a marketing assistant and broadcaster for WDWS/WHMS radio on the University of Illinois campus, including serving as a color commentator for Illinois women’s basketball games.

The Peoria. Ill., native is a 1992 graduate of the University of Illinois, where she earned four letters as a member of the Fighting Illini women’s basketball team.

Coneys will assist Cundiff with the coordination of all game-day facets for Olympic sporting events; all facets of event management for select events held in the Joyce Center and the planning of a variety of other Joyce Center events; marketing efforts and coordination of athletic facilities with outside University events, and coordination of the NBC executive client hospitality program.

Her previous camp responsibilities included providing administrative support to Notre Dame’s coaching staffs throughout each of their camps during the summer, as well as creating promotional materials and registering campers throughout the academic year. The summer camps program saw a significant increase in the number of registrants during her tenure, close to 3,000 more than previous years.

She worked previously for three years as an intern in game management under Yelovich.

Coneys is a graduate of SUNY Cortland where she earned a degree in sport management and was an equipment manager for the Red Dragons’ football team her junior and senior years. She is currently working towards her MBA from Indiana University. She is a native of Clifton Park, N.Y.
