Here are Five Things To Know about the Notre Dame – Boston College game…

IRISH OFF TO BOSTON COLLEGE FOR SECOND MATCH UP OF THE SEASON VS. EAGLES

The University of Notre Dame men’s basketball team (15-11, 5-8 ACC) heads to Boston College (16-10, 6-7 ACC) for a key late season Atlantic Coast Conference game in Conte Forum. The Irish, affected by three key injuries to three of the top six players in the rotation, are looking to capture a key conference road game.

The Eagles, who have won two in a row since a Feb. 6 loss at Notre Dame, look to claim their first ACC victory over the Irish.

QUICK FACTS

  • Notre Dame enters its third and final Saturday – Monday turnaround of the season, maintaining its status as the only ACC team with all three Saturday – Monday turnarounds requiring a travel leg. The Irish have faced Virginia Tech (H) and Duke (A), Florida State (H) and North Carolina (A) and will travel to Boston College Saturday before returning home to face Miami.
  • Martinas Geben scored 18 points in 17 minutes at North Carolina on Feb. 12. Picking up two quick fouls, Geben was limited to three minutes in the first half. In the second half against the Tar Heels, Geben was 6-7 with 14 points and four rebounds.
  • Matt Farrell has 21 assists over his past three games, including a season-high nine at North Carolina.
  • Notre Dame has hit 10 or more 3FGs in each of its past three games, including a season-high 16 in the first matchup against Boston College on Feb. 6.

NOTRE DAME – BOSTON COLLEGE SERIES HISTORY

Notre Dame and Boston College will be meeting for the 31st time on Saturday afternoon. The Irish lead the all-time series 20-10, including all nine meetings as ACC opponents (since the 2013-14 season).

Dating back to the final meeting between the two teams as BIG EAST members in 2005, the Irish have won 10 consecutive games against the Eagles. That matches the 10-game win streak with DePaul as the longest against an opponent the Irish have met at least 25 times and have matched up during the Mike Brey era.

FARRELL DOING WHAT BREY GUARDS DO

Senior guard Matt Farrell has reached two key career milestones – 350 assists and 150 made three-point field goals. Only seven players in Notre Dame basketball history have hit those numbers and all seven are what could be described as prototypical Mike Brey guards (ability to pass and shoot).

BY THE NUMBERS – NOTRE DAME AT BOSTON COLLEGE

1

More week of game action expected to be missed by senior Bonzie Colson after fracturing a bone in his foot on Friday, December 29. Colson was averaging 21.4 points, 10.4 rebounds and over two steals and two blocks per game – the only college player to hit those averages this year and the only player to reach those averages since Sports Reference started tracking statistics in the 1992-93 season.

4

Mike Brey is the fourth-longest tenured head coach among power five conference teams – now in his 18th season at Notre Dame. Jim Boeheim (42), Mike Krzyzewski (38) and Tom Izzo (23) are the only other power five conference head coaches with a longer tenure at their current institution.

6

Made 3FGs without a miss for sophomore forward John Mooney at North Carolina, matching the school record for 3FGs in a single game without a miss (Matt Carroll, 11/24/2001).

10

Notre Dame has won its last 10 games against Boston College, dating back to the two team’s last meeting as BIG EAST Conference foes in 2005. The Irish are 9-0 against BC in ACC play, including 4-0 at Conte Forum.

11.3

Sophomore guard T.J. Gibbs has improved his scoring by 11.6 points per game this season (4.7 to 16.0), the second-best mark in the ACC.

13

Both T.J. Gibbs and senior guard Matt Farrell are on a streak of 13 consecutive games with at least one three-point field goal, which is tied for fifth in the ACC. Farrell’s career-best streak of 31 games ended earlier this season vs. St. Francis Brooklyn. Farrell has hit at least one three pointer in 44 of his last 45 games played.

24

Combined games missed due to injury by Bonzie Colson (12), Matt Farrell (5) and freshman forward D.J. Harvey (7) – three of the top six players on the Irish roster. Harvey hopes to return to action this weekend, while Colson could return by the end of the regular season.

52

Three-point field goal percentage (22-42, .524) for John Mooney in ACC competition. While Mooney misses the minimum to lead the league (two made per game) .524 leads all ACC players with at least two attempts per game.

97

The senior class of Bonzie Colson, Matt Farrell, Martinas Geben, Matt Gregory and Austin Torres (graduate student) has matched the 2016-17 and 2012-13 senior classes as the all-time winningest senior class in Notre Dame basketball history.

120.6

Offensive rating for senior forward Martinas Geben according to KenPom.com, the seventh-best in the league with at least 20% of possessions used.

931

Career points scored for Matt Farrell who is on pace to become the 64th Notre Dame player to reach the 1,000 point milestone.
