Meuth earns double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The fifth-ranked Notre Dame volleyball team (5-1, 5-1 ACC) swept Boston College (25-17, 25-20, 25-23) on Friday night inside Power Gym.

Caroline Meuth led the Irish with 15 kills while Charley Niego and Lindsey Miller each added nine kills. Zoe Nunez added 41 assists in the three sets of play. 

Freshman Hattie Monson earned a game-high 24 digs and Meuth added 11 digs to earn her fourth double-double of the season. Miller also added a game-high four blocks.

As a team, the Irish hit .303 on the night while limiting Boston College to .138.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Set
The Irish jumped out to a 4-0 lead to open play before the Eagles rallied to tie the set at 7-all. Notre Dame used a 3-0 run, capped by a kill by Aubrey Hamilton, to go up 12-8 and force a Boston College timeout. The Irish extended their lead with another 4-0 run, which included a pair of kills by Miller, to take an 18-10 lead. Three consecutive kills by Niego propelled the Irish to a 21-11 lead, and the visitors held on to take the first set, 25-17.

Second Set
Three kills by Meuth and a pair of kills by Miller helped the Irish earn an 8-5 lead to begin the second set. Meuth’s fifth kill of the frame put the Irish up 14-11 and forced a Boston College timeout. Boston College used a 4-0 run to get within one at 17-16 before the Irish converted the next four points to go up 21-16. Notre Dame closed the frame on a 4-1 run, with a kill by Meuth sealing a 25-20 set win and a 2-0 lead for the Irish.

Third Set
Two kills each by Niego and Meuth helped the Irish earn a 9-5 lead to open the third set. The Eagles answered with four straight points to even the set at 9-9. After the sides worked to a 13-all deadlock, the Irish went up 16-13 with a 3-0 run culminated by an ace by Meuth. Back-to-back kills by Meuth extended the Irish lead to 5-0 and put Notre Dame ahead 18-13 after an Eagles timeout. Boston College converted four straight points to get back within two at 22-20 and force an Irish timeout. After the break, the Eagles extended their run to 6-0 to even the score at 22-22. Kills by Hannah Thompson and Meuth clinched a 25-23 set win and a sweep for Notre Dame.
