No. 3 Women's Tennis Hosts No. 71 Louisville Friday at 2 p.m.

Feb. 8, 2007

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No. 3 Notre Dame women’s tennis team will host No. 71 Louisville on Friday. First-serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

The Irish enter the match-up with the Cardinals following their impressive run at last weekend’s USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Notre Dame knocked off No. 18 Clemson (5-2), No. 10 Baylor (5-2) and No. 8 Northwestern (4-3) en route to the finals. The Irish had never previously reached the semifinals, let alone finals. Notre Dame was not able to capture the team title, following a tough, 4-2, defeat against No. 6 Georgia Tech.

The Irish moved into the No. 3 spot in this week’s ITA national poll. Notre Dame, which entered the dual season ranked No. 4, has already defeated four teams ranked among the top 20.

The Irish will look to extend their 20-match dual home winning streak. Notre Dame has not dropped a dual match at home since Feb. 26, 2005 against Texas.

The Irish and Louisville have met just once in the all-time series. Notre Dame routed the Cardinals, 9-0, during the 1987 season in Hilton Head, SC.
