INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — The No. 24-ranked University of Notre Dame has made its way to the 2017 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships with a school-record 10 participants. The championships will be held March 15-18 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
Five student-athletes will compete in individual races, one will dive on the 1 meter board and another four will join them in relay events.
The 10 participants breaks the previous school record of nine, which was accomplished by the 2002 and 1999 team.
THE IRISH RESURGENCE
The Notre Dame women’s squad continued its resurgent 2016-17 season with a seventh-place finish at the 2017 ACC Championships. The Irish registered 654.5 points — the most for Notre Dame’s women in the ACC Championships since 2014. Every swimmer on the Irish women’s roster earned points at the meet and four of the five relay squads set Notre Dame records.
Last weekend, the Irish continued their upward trend on the spring board as freshman Claire Andrews qualified in the 1 meter following a sixth-place finish in NCAA Zone C. She registered a score of 558.05 and became the 10th Irish athlete to qualify for the championships.

COACH LITZINGER’S THOUGHTS
On a record ten athletes competing for Notre Dame…
“Competing at this meet with 10 members of our team is very exciting. This is a young group, except Catherine Mulquin but she is here for the first time to compete in individual races. It will be a learning experience for all.”
On what he expects from his team at the championships…
“I expect our group to be aggressive like they have been all year and to lay down the tracks for future performance. Regardless, we will race hard and compete for Notre Dame.”
