No. 22 Irish Continue Dual-Meet Competition

Nov. 8, 2007

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No. 22 ranked Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team continues a five week stretch of competition this weekend as they take on Pittsburgh Friday night at the Trees Pool in Pittsburg, Pa. This is the team’s fourth consecutive Friday evening competition in four weeks. The dual-meet action will begin with diving starting at 3 p.m. (ET) and the swimming events to follow at 4 p.m.

The Irish face the Panthers after beating Purdue a week ago, 158.5-131.5. The victory over the Boilermakers was the first dual-meet win for Notre Dame this season. Notre Dame holds a record of 1-2 this season going into Friday’s competition. The face off with the Panthers will mark the first BIG EAST competition this season for Notre Dame.

This will be the 11th time that the Irish and Panthers have faced off in the history of the program. Notre Dame holds a commanding 10-0 record over Pittsburgh with Nixon holding two of those wins. The third-year coach will look to extend the win streak this weekend.

Last season against Pittsburgh, Notre Dame captured the team title, 188-112, in the Rolfs Aquatic Center in Notre Dame, Ind. The team won nine of 16 events while former Notre Dame athlete Katie Carroll set one school record in the 1,000 freestyle. Individual winners against the Panthers in ’06 returning to compete this season includes senior Caroline Johnson (100 back), junior Claire Hutchinson (200 fly) and sophomore Natalie Stitt (3-meter, 1-meter).
