Jan. 16, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team welcomes a pair of opponents as it opens its dual season Saturday at Eck Tennis Pavilion.

The 20th-ranked Irish will kick the season off with a doubleheader, facing Western Michigan at noon ET, followed by a 5 p.m. ET tilt with Detroit. Head coach Jay Louderback will use the opportunity to firm up his lineups before the Irish welcome a trio of ranked opponents in February.

“We’re still messing with the lineup some and we’ll know a little more after this weekend because they’re going to have a chance to play,” Louderback said. “We’re going to have at least eight of them playing and we’re going to just do some switching around, maybe in doubles also, just to get where we don’t have everybody play every match.”

The Irish enter the season with junior Quinn Gleason and sophomore Monica Robinson ranked 16th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s doubles poll. The pair placed second at the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional during the fall season and earned a bid to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship.

Western Michigan finished last season 13-11, while Detroit was 11-8 before losing in the Horizon League semifinal.

Live results will be available for each match through und.com. Fans can also follow Notre Dame women’s tennis on Twitter (@NDWomensTennis) and Facebook.
