NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No. 17 Notre Dame men’s swimming and diving team won its second dual meet in as many days by defeating BIG EAST rival Pittsburgh 172-126 in the Rolfs Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Irish took nine of 16 events to improve to 4-0 for the first time since the 1992-93 campaign. Senior Ted Brown (Kokomo, Ind./Western), who captured two wins in the Irish’s 165-75 victory over Michigan State on Friday, registered wins in the 500 (4:31.37) and 1,000-yard freestyle (9:30.97) events against the Panthers.

Senior Tim Kegelman (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) and freshman John Lytle (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) collected three wins apiece on the day, with two coming on relays. Notre Dame’s 200-yard medley relay quartet of Kegelman, Lytle, Jeff Wood (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport/Indiana) and Sam Pendergast (Melbourne, Australia) took first in a time of 1:32.30. The Irish placed first in the 200-yard free relay with Kegelman, Lytle, Louis Cavadini (South Bend, Ind./Riley) and Nick Fanslau (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) posting a mark of 1:24.38.

Kegelman won the 100-yard butterfly in 50.18, while Lytle was victorious in the 200 free (1:41.43). Also posting wins for the Irish were Cavadini in the 100 free (47.01) along with freshmen Ross Moore (Champaign, Ill./Champaign Central) in the 200 fly (1:51.20) and MacKenzie LeBlanc (Plano, Texas/Plano East) in the 400 IM (4:05.68).

The Irish will not return to the pool until the Ohio State Invitational, which takes place Dec. 1-3 in the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.

200-Yard Medley Relay: The Irish opened the meet with a victory as Jeff Wood, Sam Pendergast, Tim Kegelman and John Lytle posted a time of 1:32.30. Notre Dame also took third with the quartet of Andrew MacKay, Eric Swenson, Louis Cavadini and Nick Fanslau registering a mark of 1:35.99.

1,000-Yard Free: Notre Dame took the top four spots with Ted Brown claiming the victory in 9:30.97. Andrew Deters (9:32.85), Rob Seery (9:33.32) and Justin Barber (9:39.97) placed second, third and fourth, respectively, to open up a big early lead for the Fighting Irish.

200-Yard Free: For the second straight event, the Irish placed one through four. John Lytle won as he touched the wall in 1:41.43. Nick Fanslau was right behind him in second (1:43.01), while Jay Vanden Berg was third (1:43.51) and Louis Cavadini fourth (1:44.79).

100-Yard Back: Pittsburgh took its first event of the day as Jeff Leath won in a time of 50.54. The Irish took the next three scoring spots as Jeff Wood placed second in 51.10, followed by Bill Bauman (53.34) and Alan Carter (53.37).

100-Yard Breast: The Panthers captured another win as Warren Barnes took first in 56.12. Sam Pendergast was second for the Irish in 57.21, while Tyler Angelo placed fourth (59.54) and Daniel Rave was fifth (1:00.06).

200-Yard Fly: Notre Dame went 1-2 behind two freshmen. Ross Moore won in a time of 1:51.20 and MacKenzie LeBlanc was right behind him with a mark of 1:51.38.

50-Yard Free: Three of the five scoring spots went to the Irish after Pittsburgh’s Patrick Mansfield won in 21.44. Tim Kegelman was second for the Irish (21.55) and Andrew Hoffman placed fourth (21.65) and Pat Lloyd was fifth (22.25).

One-Meter Diving: Alex Volovetski totaled 328.35 to win the event for Pittsburgh. The next four spots went to the Fighting Irish. Sam Stoner was second (282.07), Michael Bulfin took third (268.27), Scott Coyle was fourth (268.19), followed by Steven Crowe (254.10).

100-Yard Free: Louis Cavadini took first for Notre Dame by touching the wall in 47.01. Nick Fanslau was third (47.60) and his Notre Dame teammate Danny Lutkus as fourth (47.79).

200-Yard Back: Jeff Leath won his second event of the day for the Panthers as he clocked a time of 1:49.10. Jeff Wood was second (1:54.09) for the Fighting Irish and Alan Carter was fourth (1:56.36).

200-Yard Breast: Pittsburgh’s Warren Barnes took his second event title of the day with a time of 2:04.00. Tyler Angelo placed second for Notre Dame in 2:06.97, while Daniel Rave was third (2:08.33) and Sam Pendergast was fifth (2:10.47).

500-Yard Free: Notre Dame took the top four spots. Ted Brown won his second event of the day by posting a mark of 4:31.37. He was followed, in order, by Rob Seery (4:38.97), Brian Freeman (4:41.86) and Andrew Hoffman (4:45.33) in spots two, three and four.

100-Yard Fly: The Irish went 1-2-3 with Tim Kegelman leading the charge in first with a time of 50.18. Ross Moore (51.01) and Ray Toomey (51.13) were second and third, respectively.

Three-Meter Diving: Alex Volovetski completed his sweep of the diving events with a point total of 353.25. Notre Dame’s Michael Bulfin was second (332.10) and Sam Stoner placed third (308.55). Chris Kane also collected two points for the Irish by placing fourth (276.90).

400-Yard IM: Notre Dame’s MacKenzie LeBlanc placed first with a time of 4:05.84, while swimming as an exhibition competitor. Andrew MacKay was second in 4:05.84 and Jay Vanden Berg was third in 4:06.21, also as an exhibition swimmer.

200-Yard Free Relay: All four of the Irish teams swam as exhibition entrants. The Notre Dame foursome of John Lytle, Louis Cavadini, Nick Fanslau and Tim Kegelman clocked in first with a time of 1:24.38. the Irish quartet of Andrew Hoffman, Alan Carter, Ray Toomey and Jeff Wood were third in 1:26.23.
