NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its Women’s Swimming and Diving and Men’s Swimming and Diving All-Academic Teams on Tuesday, with nine University of Notre Dame student-athletes represented among the teams of 50.
Freshman Abbie Dolan, senior Catherine Mulquin, freshman Erin Sheehan, senior Joe Coumos, senior James Lichtenstein and sophomore Daniel Speers were all named to the All-Academic Team for the first time. Senior Kevin Bradley, senior Reed Fujan and junior Robby Whitacre took home the honors for a second time.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
“It goes along with being at Notre Dame,” Irish head coach Mike Litzinger said. “You are charged to compete at the highest level possible, athletically and academically. Those individuals certainly did that this year with the improvement our program has had on both the men’s and women’s side and those individuals able to achieve a championship final in the ACC and in the NCAA qualifying. Those awards are certainly deserved along with their academic recognition.
“We ask them to do everything at the highest level. We’re not asking them to take a lower level of credits. During the season, we’re asking them to take a full class schedule. That’s more uncommon that you would think. I believe both our men’s and women’s teams have accepted that challenge that this is what it’s about here. This is how we are going to go about things and really strive for excellence on all levels.”
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
