Oct. 25, 2004

Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame senior goaltender Morgan Cey (Wilkie, Sask.) has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s (CCHA) goaltender of the week for the week ending Oct. 24.

Cey sparked the Irish to a 3-2 upset win of No. 1-ranked Boston College on Friday, Oct. 22 at the Joyce Center. The senior goaltender made a career-high 50 saves to lead the Irish to their first win of the season. Boston College out shot Notre Dame, 52-17 in the game. Twenty-eight of Cey’s 50 saves came on 11 Eagle power-play chances, including three, five-on-three opportunities on the night.

The 6-3, 177-pound goaltender made 20 saves in the first period, 10 in the second and 20 more in the final stanza, giving up both Boston College goals in the third period. Sophomore right wing T.J. Jindra (Faribault, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal short-handed with 15 seconds left in the game.

On the season, Cey is now 1-1-1 with a 2.28 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage. The win was the 36th of Cey’s Notre Dame career and ties him for fifth on the school’s all-time wins list with Bob McNamara (1979-83).

Notre Dame returns to action this weekend with a pair of games on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 29-30 when the Irish play host to the Northern Michigan Wildcats in CCHA action. Friday’s game is scheduled to start at 7:35 p.m. with Saturday’s game set for a 7:05 p.m. start.
