NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A date change in the University of Notre Dame football schedule for 2000 means the Irish now will open that season with a home game on Sept. 2, 2000, against Texas A&M.

The Irish-Aggie matchup originally was scheduled for Sept. 30. The change was made to assist NBC Sports in its programming for the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

The date switch means the Irish now will open the 2000 season with three straight home games — Sept. 2 against Texas A&M, Sept. 9 against Nebraska and Sept. 16 against Purdue.

In another adjustment, the Nov. 18, 2000, game against Rutgers, previously listed at Giants Stadium, will be played on the Rutgers campus at Rutgers Stadium.

In a third update, the United States Naval Academy recently announced that the 2000 Navy-Notre Dame game will be played at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla.
