Miles named to Naismith Trophy Watch List

You can add another preseason watch list to the Olivia Miles File.

On Friday, the Atlanta Tipoff Club released its annual Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Women’s Watch List. Fifty women, including the 5-10 sophomore point guard, made the group.

“We have selected an elite group of athletes for the 2023 Jersey Mike’s Women’s Naismith Trophy watch list this year, and we look forward to keeping an eye on these stellar players and adding additional excellent players as the season progresses,” said Eric Oberman, executive director of the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

The ACC has a total of nine women on the list, checking in behind the Big Ten (10). Both the Pac-12 and SEC have nine athletes as well. South Carolina leads all schools with three selections, and the Gamecocks’ Aliyah Boston is the reigning winner.

A midseason team of 30 women will be announced in February with a narrowing to 10 women in early March. Four finalists will be named on March 21, 2023, and the winner will be named on March 29.

Should Miles bring the trophy to South Bend this spring, she would be just the second Irish women’s basketball player to do so. In 2001, former Notre Dame standout and national champion Ruth Riley earned the honor.

In addition to the preseason Naismith Watch List, Miles has been named preseason All-ACC and been named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List (nation’s best point guard).
