NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Michigan senior Debra Streifler won a third-set tiebreaker at No. 4 singles against Vanessa Heute in the final contest remaining to end a match that lasted three hous and 58 minuts and give the Wolverines (17-7) a 4-3 victory over Nebraska (17-10) in the opening round of the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship Friday morning in the Eck Tennis Pavilion at the University of Notre Dame.

The score was tied 2-2, with a trio of three-set affairs remaining. Nebraska’s Kim Hartmann won 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 over Kara Delicata at No. 1 to put the Huskers within a point of victory, but the Wolverines would battle back. Lindsey Howard beat Ewelina Skaza 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 at No. 6 to even the score, and Streifler then came through with a 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-4) victory.

Michigan advances to the second round for the third time in the last four years and will take on either Notre Dame or Valparaiso on Saturday at 1 p.m. (ET).
