TULSA, Okla. – University of Notre Dame men’s tennis standout Quentin Monaghan is into the third round of the qualifying singles portion of the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships after a tight, straight-sets win over Oklahoma’s Alex Ghilea Tuesday afternoon.

With a 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5) victory over Ghilea, Monaghan is now one win away from advancing to the main draw of the tournament. Monaghan, ranked No. 88 in the country, is having a solid fall thus far as he is now 2-0 this week after picking up a big win over No. 6 Jared Hiltzik of Illinois last Sunday at the Illini Invitational.

Elsewhere, on Tuesday, sophomore Josh Hagar saw his tournament come to an end with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 loss to UNLV’s Denys Pume in the second round of the qualifying round. Hagar advanced to the second round after a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over Wake Forest’s Maksim Kan Monday.

Earlier in the weekend, junior Kenneth Sabacinski went 1-1 in the pre-qualifying round of the singles tournament.

In addition to Monaghan, the doubles tandem of Billy Pecor and Alex Lawson are in Tulsa and get their tournament underway Thursday as they play in the doubles main draw.
