Notre Dame, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s swimming and diving team fell to 5-3 on the season with a close 163-137 dual-meet loss over TCU. The Horned Frogs won their fourth meet in a row and improve to 4-2 in 2001.

The Irish were led by senior Jonathan Pierce, who won both the 1,000 freestyle and the 400 individual medley. Pierce’s winning time of 9:25.83 in the 1,000 freestyle was 16 seconds faster than his next closest competitor – TCU’s Byron Coyle, who finished in 9:41.89. Irish freshman Matthew Bertke finished third in the event (9:44.16).

In the 400 individual medley relay, Pierce won the race in 4:08.99. TCU’s Clint Barghi was second in 4:11.24, while David Moisan was third in 4:14.18.

Krakowski continued his great fall by winning the 50 freestyle in 21.34. He then came back to win the 100 butterfly in 51.33.

In diving, Irish junior Andy Maggio was first in the one-meter diving event, finishing with 298.10 points. Notre Dame’s Tong Xie was third with 261.55 and Joseph Miller was fourth (244.60). On the three-meter board, Maggio was second with 297.15 points, while Miller was third and Xie fifth.

Other individual event winners for the Irish included J.R. Teddy in the 200 butterfly with a winning time of 1:53.73

The Irish return to the water Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 6-8, when they play host to the Notre Dame Invitational.
