NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Troy Murphy had 23 points and four blocked shots to lead Notre Dame to a 74-58 victory over Pittsburgh on Tuesday night.
The Irish held Pittsburgh to 21.9 percent shooting in the first half as they opened up a 22-point lead.
The win ended a two-game losing streak for the Irish (10-5, 2-2 Big East) who fell out of the Top 25 for the first time this season after losing three of four.
The Panthers (10-6, 2-3), who upset Seton Hall 77-65 on Saturday, scored 10 points in the final 69 seconds and avoided tallying their lowest scoring game of the season.
Martin Ingelsby had 13 points and 5 assists for the Irish. David Graves scored 12. Meanwhile, Harold Swanagan pulled down 10 rebounds.
Jaron Brown had 12 points for the Panthers and Ricardo Greer had 11 points on 2-of-12 shooting.
The Panthers shot a season-low 31.3 percent.
The Panthers used an 11-2 run midway through the second half to close to 48-38.
But the Irish scored seven quick points to end the threat.
Pittsburgh cut the lead to 58-47 when Brown made a 10-foot jumper with 6:53 left to cap a 7-2 run, but they scored just one more point over the next 5:44.
Notre Dame opened the first half with an 11-0 run, while Pittsburgh missed its first 11 shots and had four turnovers. The Irish closed the half with a 17-5 spurt to take a 40-18 halftime lead.
