Luke Harangody Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Notre Dame, Ind. – Luke Harangody (Schererville, Ind.) has named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time this season after averaging . The sophomore forward averaged 20.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in Notre Dame’s two wins last week at Seton Hall (95-69) and at home against Marquette (86-83).

Harangody, who also has been twice named the BIG EAST Player of the Week in 2007-08, registered double-doubles in both of those contests. Against the Pirates, he finished with 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as he connected on 10-15 shots from the field. That contest marked his fourth straight game with 20-plus points as he became the first player since Chris Thomas in 2003-04 to score 20-plus points in four consecutive games.

Harangody notched his fifth consecutive double-double against Marquette when he finished with 18 points and 11 boards. The last Notre Dame player to record five straight double-doubles was Ryan Humphrey in 2001-02 when he posted a double-double in the final 11 games of his senior campaign.

Harangody leads the Irish in both scoring and rebounds with 20.3 points and 10.2 rebounds and tops the BIG EAST Conference in both of those categories at 23.5 points and 11.7 rebounds. He has scored in double figures in 21 of the 22 contests and owns a career-best 20-game double-figure scoring streak. Harangody has scored 20-plus points in 12 games overall and grabbed 10-plus rebounds in 13 contests.

Currently, Notre Dame is 18-4 overall and 8-2 in BIG EAST play. The Irish have won five straight and 16 of their last 18 contests and are ranked 22nd in the Associated Press and 21st in the ESPN/USA Today rankings.

Jeff Adrien of Connecticut was named league’s player of the week, Jonny Flynn of Syracuse garnered rookie-of-the-week honors while John Williamson (Cincinnati), Hasheem Thabeet (Connecticut), Jerry Smith (Louisville) and Larry Wright (St. John’s) joined Harangody on the weekly honor roll.
