Incoming Irish freshman Lindsay Schrader scored 10 points in Saturday's WBCA All-America Game, held at Nicoson Hall on the University of Indianapolis campus.

Lindsay Schrader Named To 2005 McDonald's High School All-America Team.

Feb. 26, 2005

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Incoming Notre Dame freshman guard Lindsay Schrader (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett HS) is one of 24 players who have been selected to the 2005 McDonald’s All-America High School Team, it was announced recently. Schrader also will play for the West Team in the fourth annual McDonald’s All-America High School Girls’ Basketball Game on March 30 at 5:30 p.m. (ET) at Notre Dame’s Joyce Center. That game will be televised nationally on a delayed basis by ESPN2, airing on March 31 at 5 p.m. (ET).

Schrader, who signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Notre Dame back in November, is the third Irish signee to earn McDonald’s All-America honors in the past four years. In 2002, junior forward Courtney LaVere (Ventura, Calif./Buena HS) was chosen, with sophomore forward Crystal Erwin (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./St. Paul HS) tapped for the elite honor in 2003. LaVere also sparkled during the skills competition in ’02, pairing up with current Irish men’s basketball standout Torin Francis to win the “team ball” event. The potential exists for another Notre Dame pairing in the skills competition at this year’s McDonald’s Game, as incoming Irish men’s basketball signee Luke Zeller also will be competing in the 2005 event.

In addition to her selection as a McDonald’s All-American, Schrader also is one of 20 players who have been chosen to participate in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) High School All-America Game. That contest will take place three days after the McDonald’s All-America Game on April 2 at 4:30 p.m. (ET) at the University of Indianapolis’ Nicoson Hall as part of the “WBCA Night of All-Stars” at the NCAA Women’s Final Four and WBCA national convention.

“We are so happy for Lindsay,” Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw said. “She has worked extremely hard to get where she is, and these selection are a fitting reward for her efforts. I hope the Notre Dame and South Bend communities will turn out in large numbers for the McDonald’s Game on March 30 to see Lindsay and Luke make their debuts at the Joyce Center. All of us in the Notre Dame women’s basketball program are looking forward to seeing Lindsay take the Joyce Center floor in an Irish uniform for the first time next season.”

Schrader has been widely regarded as one of the top all-around players in the state of Illinois the past four years. She is a three-time all-state selection, a two-time Illinois Miss Basketball finalist, and a two-time Street & Smith’s All-America selection who has averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocks per game in her prep career. She is in the midst of her finest high school season to date, averaging 22.7 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game while topping the 2,300-point and 1,000-rebound marks for her career. She also has been instrumental in Bartlett’s 27-4 record, its first-ever sectional championship (Schrader scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the title game win over St. Charles East) and a berth in the super-sectionals, putting BHS one victory away from its first-ever trip to the eight-team Illinois Class AA state finals.

Last summer, Schrader made a significant impact at the 2004 USA Basketball Youth Development Festival in Colorado Springs. Playing for the North Team that won the silver medal, she ranked third at the Festival in scoring (14.8 ppg.) and rebounding (8.6 rpg.), as well as second in field goal percentage (.542). All three figures were team highs, as were her 2.2 steals per game. For her efforts, Schrader was invited to attend the 2004 USA Women’s Junior World Championship Qualifying Team Trials, where she was one of 17 finalists for the 12-player team that won the gold medal in Puerto Rico last August.
