OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Notre Dame defenseman Kevin Randall has been named a finalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award in the men’s lacrosse division. Randall is one of 10 finalists up for the prestigious honor.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of finalists follows this release.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 20 candidates announced in February. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to determine the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award website (seniorCLASSaward.com) through May 14. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I men’s head coaches’ votes to determine the winner.

Lowe’s, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the Senior CLASS Award® winner during the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship, which will be held May 26 and 28 in Boston.

Randall has started all eight games this season and is a key reason why the Notre Dame defense ranks second nationally by allowing just 6.0 goals per game. Notre Dame is 7-1 this season and ranked sixth nationally. The Charlotte Hounds selected Randall in the seventh round (49th overall selection) of the 2012 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft.

Randall boasts a 3.542 cumulative grade-point average as civil engineering major in Notre Dame’s College of Engineering. Randall, one of three team captains for the Irish this season, has been named to the Dean’s List the past three semesters. He and the rest of his Fighting Irish teammates are involved with numerous community service projects in the South Bend/Notre Dame community.
