May 31, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Kevin Randall, a senior defenseman on the Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team, has been named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-America Team.

Randall (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) was a key reason why the Notre Dame defense finished the season ranked first nationally by allowing just 6.31 goals per game. The Fighting Irish held 12 of their 16 opponents to seven goals or fewer on the season. Notre Dame also boasted the nation’s top man-down defense (.892).

Last week, Randall, an Irish team captain, received first-team All-America honors from the USILA. Randall was named the 2012 BIG EAST Defenseman of the Year in addition to earning unanimous first-team all-league accolades. He also was a finalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.

Randall graduated earlier this month with a degree in civil engineering from Notre Dame’s College of Engineering. The Charlotte Hounds selected Randall during January’s Major League Lacrosse draft.

Notre Dame was a national semifinalist this season and concluded the campaign with a 13-3 record and ranked third in the final Nike/Inside Lacrosse media poll.
